Can Cemu emulate SWITCH?

Q: I see that Cemu can play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Does that mean that Cemu can emulate SWITCH games?

No. Cemu can run the WiiU version of the Breath of the Wild with some major graphical improvemts, like upscaling to native 4K output, improved shading, 60 frames per second refresh rate etc, so it may look better than on the regular WiiU and even the Switch, but it is still WiiU version of the game that the emulator is running underneath all the graphical beauty.

1. Which controllers are supported?
At the moment, it is only possible to emulate GamePad (DRC). It can be mapped using your USB controller or keyboard.

2. Does sound work?
Partially. However the filters and effects are not yet supported so expect to hear sudden loud noises.

3. Besides Windows, will other platforms be supported eventually?
Support for multi-platform is still being planned and so far, majority of the development decisions are leaning towards giving support to other platforms. However there are a lot of things that need to be done before this can be materialized.

4. Is the performance of the Cemu going to improve?
Cemu is still a newbie and right now its developers are focusing on accuracy. Once this has already been significantly improved then they can commence working on optimizing it and making it faster.

5. Are there plans of adding a DX12 graphics backend?
Many people think that the DX12 graphics will increase its speed greatly but this doesn’t necessarily apply to Cemu. Moreover, since OpenGL can actually be quite fast if used properly, performance is not really an issue. Modern OpenGL and the DX12 are equal in terms of features so there is no need to get support for DX12.

6. Will Cemu be added a 32bit support?
It’s technically possible to support X86 but there are restrictions to having a 32 bit version of the Cemu and it could cause it to become very slow.

7. Why does Cemu crash when I run a game? Sometimes I see a black screen.
Cemu is still in the early stages so it’s normal to encounter applications and games that do not work with it.
